Drops of an activated industrial bleaching chemical, taken orally, marketed as a near-universal cure said to kill the pathogens behind cancer, HIV/AIDS, autism, malaria, hepatitis, and, later, COVID-19.
THE ACTUAL EVIDENCE
No controlled clinical trial in humans supports any of the marketed disease-cure claims. The FDA states it is not aware of any research showing the products are safe or effective for treating any illness, and has warned since 2010 that ingestion causes severe vomiting, diarrhea, and life-threatening low blood pressure from dehydration, among other dangerous effects; the FDA's consumer update describes the mixed product as chlorine dioxide bleach. A 2025 in vitro laboratory study (Dudek-Wicher et al., Scientific Reports) found that, at the lowest concentration tested, acidified sodium chlorite was not more antimicrobially effective against tested bacterial biofilms than a standard antiseptic, and that it was cytotoxic to mouse fibroblast cells (the L929 line) in culture -- a narrow laboratory finding about the chemical's properties, not a clinical test of any marketed disease-cure claim. A federal jury's 2023 guilty verdict against the Genesis II Church operators for distributing an unapproved and misbranded drug is a legal and regulatory finding, not a scientific one, though it rests on the same absence of any approved medical use.

Marketed since 2006 as a solution to be diluted, activated with an acid, and drunk in drops, “Miracle Mineral Solution” reframes an industrial bleaching and water-disinfection chemical, sodium chlorite, as a cure for nearly any disease attributed to a “pathogen.” Its promoters have marketed it, in sequence and often simultaneously, as a treatment for cancer, HIV/AIDS, autism, hepatitis, malaria, and, from 2020, COVID-19. The FDA classifies it as an unapproved and misbranded drug; four of its U.S. sellers, operating as Genesis II Church of Health and Healing, were criminally convicted in 2023 for continuing to sell it after regulators ordered them to stop. Despite that prosecution, other promoters have continued marketing the same protocol under other names (chlorine dioxide solution, “CD,” Water Purification Solution) into the present.
