This is the rejuvenation promise that drew foreign patients to Bucharest: that a course of Gerovital would restore the energy, mood, appearance, and sexual vigor of youth. It is classified as refuted in the sense that the broad rejuvenation claim was not borne out: the 1977 Ostfeld, Smith, and Stotsky review found no convincing evidence of benefit beyond a possible antidepressant effect, and explicitly proposed that a mild antidepressant action, if present, could account for patients reporting that they felt better across many body systems.
