METHUSELAH ARCHIVE CLAIMS
Claim · 2002 · Kevin Trudeau Natural Cures infomercial program (2002-2014)

Coral Calcium Supreme provides the same bioavailable calcium as two gallons of milk, absorbs into the body faster than ordinary calcium, and can cure cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure, lupus, and other serious illnesses.

Kevin Trudeau’s infomercials for Coral Calcium Supreme, airing from around 2002, claimed the supplement’s coral-derived calcium carbonate was uniquely bioavailable and could cure cancer and other serious diseases through an unspecified mineral or alkalizing mechanism. Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center’s evidence-based herb and supplement database states directly that coral calcium “has not been shown to treat or prevent cancer, and is not superior to other forms of calcium supplements” (MSKCC, last updated 5 Jan. 2022), and that “there is no evidence that these supplements are any better than typical calcium supplements available at lower cost.” The FTC’s June 2003 complaint alleged the claims were false and unsubstantiated; a July 2003 stipulated injunction barred them; the court found Trudeau in contempt in mid-2004 for repeating them; and the September 2004 settlement permanently barred Trudeau from making health claims for any product in any advertising medium (FTC press release, 7 Sept. 2004; Trudeau v. FTC, 456 F.3d 178, D.C. Cir. 2006). The claim is recorded as refuted because MSKCC’s evidence assessment directly contradicts its cancer-cure and superior-bioavailability components; the FTC separately alleged that the ads were false and unsubstantiated and resolved the charges by settlement after a contempt finding.
