METHUSELAH ARCHIVE CLAIMS
Claim · 1895 · Chiropractic (vertebral subluxation adjustment)

An 'Innate Intelligence' -- a segment of a universal organizing intelligence -- flows through the nervous system and maintains health; spinal misalignment (subluxation) interrupts this flow and produces disease.

mechanism onlyuntested intervention Chiropractic (vertebral subluxation adjustment)

Palmer’s own stated mechanism, developed from his September 1895 founding episode onward (Batinić et al. 2013) and taken directly from his writing: that which he named Innate (born with) is a segment of that Intelligence which fills the universe (Brown 2010). Innate Intelligence is described as flowing through the nervous system, with vertebral subluxation obstructing that flow and producing disease. A modern reform chiropractor, Lon Morgan DC, is described in the secondary literature as calling the concept untestable and unverifiable, rooted in mystical and occult practices from an earlier era (Wikipedia, “Chiropractic controversy and criticism”). No controlled measurement of “Innate Intelligence” itself appears in the sources reviewed here; the construct is not, by its own proponents’ description, an empirical variable.
