The internal tonic stimulates the elimination of toxins that poison the system, correcting the body's abnormal blood chemistry and normalizing cell metabolism.

mechanism onlyrefuted made by Harry M. Hoxsey intervention Hoxsey herbal tonic and escharotic paste

The proposed mechanism behind the internal tonic, as Memorial Sloan Kettering’s current About Herbs monograph records Hoxsey’s own description: that it “stimulates the elimination of toxins that poison the system, thereby correcting the abnormal blood chemistry and normalizing cell metabolism.” No specific toxin, metabolic pathway, or blood-chemistry abnormality was ever identified or measured; the claim names no testable target. Memorial Sloan Kettering’s monograph states plainly that none of this is “substantiated by scientific data.”
