On 1 April 1930, Baker and Harry Hoxsey (later the seller of his own cancer tonic, documented elsewhere in this archive) signed a written contract under which each man asserted he separately possessed a “secret treatment for cancer,” Hoxsey’s differing from Baker’s own. Hoxsey worked inside Baker’s Muscatine hospital for a time under that arrangement before the two fell out; an Iowa court later found the underlying Baker formula to be nothing more than clover, corn silk, watermelon seed, and water.
