Laetrile for Cancer: A Systematic Review of the Clinical Evidence
clinical paper · 2007
LINK
SUMMARY
Systematic review of 36 reports containing clinical data on laetrile interventions (no controlled clinical trials found among them; three nonconsecutive case series, two consecutive case series, six best-case series, and 25 case reports). Conclusion, per its indexed abstract: none of the 36 reports proved laetrile's effectiveness, and the claim that laetrile benefits cancer patients is not supported by sound clinical data. PMID 17106659 confirmed via PubMed/NCBI eutils esummary and Crossref DOI resolution; abstract wording per EXA-indexed abstract text, not independently re-fetched from a directly loaded PubMed page (PubMed's page presented a cookie-consent interstitial to automated fetch during this research session).
NOTES
An earlier systematic review by the same lead author as the 2011 Cochrane review, documenting that the entire pre-2007 clinical literature on laetrile outside the 1982 NCI-sponsored trial consists of uncontrolled case reports and case series.
