SUMMARY
Animal-model study testing Essiac for gastroprotective, hepatoprotective, hypoglycemic, and immunomodulatory effects in rats and mice. Found only a modest gastric-protective effect; found no significant hepatoprotective, hypoglycemic, or immunomodulatory properties, i.e. Essiac did not significantly demonstrate its purported physiological effects. PMID confirmed via PubMed efetch (MEDLINE record) 2026-08-17.
NOTES

A controlled animal study testing the specific physiological effects (immune modulation, liver protection, blood sugar control) that promotional claims attribute to Essiac; used in this case to show that, when tested directly, most of the purported mechanism did not hold up.
