SUMMARY
FDA consumer warning, dated 24 May 2024, that three Apricot Power brand bitter apricot seed products (California Select, Organic Turkish Select, South African Select) were found to contain the toxic compound amygdalin, capable of releasing cyanide and causing symptoms ranging from difficulty breathing and bluish skin discoloration to coma, seizures, cardiovascular collapse, and death; advises consumers who ingested the products to contact a health care provider immediately.
NOTES
Confirms amygdalin’s active commercial continuation in bitter-apricot-seed products still being sold and triggering a federal safety warning 45 years after the Supreme Court case, and supplies the current-enterprise-critique obligation’s most recent regulatory action.
