NOTES

Le Chanteclair was a French illustrated satirical and cultural magazine published in Paris in the early twentieth century. The February 1914 issue included Georges Villa’s caricature of Alexis Carrel, shortly after his 1912 Nobel Prize, as he was at the height of his scientific celebrity in Europe. The Wellcome Collection holds this image and has digitised it as part of its historical medical portrait holdings. The Wellcome licence for this item is CC BY 4.0; attribution should be given to Wellcome Collection. The original publication in 1914 makes any copyright claim moot under both UK and US public-domain rules for the underlying period print.
