In the early hours of 12 April 2015 she took eight 250mg DNP capsules; she drove herself to hospital that morning, sent messages of regret to friends and colleagues as her condition worsened, and died of cardiac arrest that afternoon despite hospital treatment. Her death and the ensuing prosecution of Rebelo are among the most extensively documented modern DNP fatalities in UK legal and toxicological literature.

Eloise (‘Ella’) Parry died on 12 April 2015 at age 21 after taking 2,4-dinitrophenol (DNP) diet capsules bought online from Bernard Rebelo. The sentencing judge, Mrs Justice Whipple, spoke warmly of her as a student loved by family and friends, and set out the mental-health vulnerability (bulimia nervosa, emotionally unstable personality disorder, repeated self-harm and suicide attempts) that the court found made her especially susceptible to a promoter’s claims. Her case became the central, most litigated fatality in Rebelo’s two trials and final sentencing, and is widely cited in UK medical and toxicological literature on DNP’s modern resurgence.
